We reviewed faults and their causes, hanging wall and footwall blocks, and folds. Next we took a crack at using the difference between the arrival times of p- and s-waves to determine the distance of a seismograph from an earthquake. With three seismographs we can nail down the location of an earthquake by using the three arrival time differences, and therefore the three distances of the earthquake from the seismographs. Our results looked something like the map below. We found the distance of the earthquake from the UAE, from a town in Australia, and a town in Japan. The epicenter was in the Banda Sea, as one can see in the map below. Assignments:
